CAF President to attend COSAFA meeting in Johannesburg
4 April 2017 – Newly-elected CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad will make his first regional visit when he officially attends the COSAFA meeting on Friday, 7 April in Johannesburg.
Ahmad, who defeated long time CAF President Issa Hayatou 34-20 in elections that took place in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa last month, will co-chair the meeting with COSAFA President Phillip Chiyangwa.
The meeting will be attended by all of COSAFA’s 14 Football Association Presidents (Angola, Botswana, Comoros Islands, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe).
The delegates will arrive on Thursday, 6 April 2017 with the gathering set for Friday in Sandton.
“There is no particular agenda for this meeting. It is just for all of COSAFA FA Presidents to meet and greet our new CAF President. Most members might have wanted to have a one on one meeting with the CAF President but we have decided to bring everyone in the same room to talk to the new President,” said Chiyangwa.
“Ahmad hails from the COSAFA Region and I think it is proper that the FA Presidents come and greet one of their own,” added Chiyangwa.
