ASPIRING YOUNG COACH, ANDILE ZUKO AIMS TO LIFT HIS 2ND DISCOVERY WALTER SISULU SOCCER CHALLENGE TITTLE

At 18, he lifted his first major title when he lifted the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge trophy in 2016 while coaching Khensa Football Club (KFC) – the following year he moved to White City Spurs but failed to advance beyond the last 16 of the Soweto’s prestigious tournament.

Now at 23, Andile Zuko aspire to lift the 16th edition of the tournament that has attracted thousands of supporters across Soweto , Eldorado Park , Southern Suburbs and Wesbury.

Zuko steered his charges , White City Spurs F.C. to the 2018 finals this afternoon when his team defeated Meadowlands Academy 2-1 in the first semi-finals of the day at the Nike Centre in Klipspruit, Soweto.

White City Spurs F.C. took an early lead in the first half before the 2016 champions were awarded a penalty in the 2nd half to increase the score to 2-0 –  Known as “Krol” in the soccer fraternity, Zuko’s tactics were put to the test when Meadowlands Academy pulled one back to make it 2-1. Zuko pulled off a striker for a defender to keep the attacking Academy at bay.

Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge tournament has produced a number of formidable players in the country and has also been a hunting ground for most of the Premier Soccer League clubs.

A notable product from the tournament is the Discovery Walter Sisulu ambassador , Lyle Foster who turned 18 early this year- Foster played for Strokes before Augusto Palacios recruited the youngster to join the Orlando Pirates academy.

In other semi-finals, Sneke Chillers booked their spot in the final when they defeated Pimville Premier Impala 3-1 in penalty shoot-out after a stalemate in normal time
