After a dominant night at the Premier Soccer League awards, the players were presented with their accolades today at the club headquarters. The 2019/20 season belonged to Mamelodi Sundowns, from winning a treble and dominating at the end of the season awards. This shows that the Brazilians are on the right track.
Gaston Sirino was the first one to set the tone of the night for Masandawana, as he walked away with the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament award, after being presented with his award he said that “I am very happy for this award, I’m grateful for everyone that made this possible. I am very happy for everything that I am achieving, thank you to everyone”.
“Aguero” also registered his name as one of the winners as he was awarded the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player Award for his efforts, and the Polokwane born did not mince his words when he said, “I won the award for Nedbank most promising player. I thank PSL and thank you Nedbank. Thank you to my teammates & the president of the club and the supporters, thank you”.
Newly signed striker Peter Shalulie was also amongst the winners on the night as he shared the league’s top goalscorer award. One of the reasons he is part of the Brazilians is to add firepower upfront and score goals and this is what he echoed after the recognition he received from the league. “I won the top goalscorer award for the PSL and I am grateful for it and I just want to thank my supporters and everyone that is contributing to my success”.
Hlompho Kekana’s goal against Cape Town City was voted as the Goal of The Season. The Captain is known for his long-range strikes and he has been dishing them out, season in and season out. I am thankful for those that have voted for me for the Goal of the Season award. I am thankful to everyone.”
The man of the moment, Themba Zwane who won three awards on the night and took away the biggest award of the night, the Footballer of the Season award, had this to say about his achievements, “I am happy, I would like to thank my family, my professional family, and the whole Sundowns family. It means a lot that I am doing well on the field and I must say that I am happy to see some of my teammates winning awards. It shows that we have been doing well throughout last season and we need to keep the momentum going. All these awards are special to me as this is the first time I am winning them. I want to thank the players and the coaches who voted for me and the message that I would like to give to everyone is. that work hard pays off, know what you want and all will be achieved,” said Zwane.
