10th Annual Basetsana Script-Writing and Directing Workshop targets more women and members of the LGBTIQ for 2020

The annual Basetsana Script Writing and Directing workshop targeting women and the LGBTIQ community marks 10 years this year and to mark this milestone, 500 persons have been targeted for the rigorous practical training.

The groups have been divided into two with the first one already having started on Monday 23 until Thursday 26 November in Meulstrool near Bronkhorstspruit. The second group is scheduled for Friday, 27 November to Tuesday, 01 December 2020.

Hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, the programme seeks to assist in transforming theatre by getting women and members of the LGBTIQ community to write, direct and produce theatre and film pieces.

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mbali Hlophe says; “We need more voices of the marginalized and downtrodden including women and the LGBTIQ community to tell their lived experiences and views and opinions about the world.

“This year we celebrate 10 years of impacting on the transformation of the arts at the root level of development. We are happy to observe the impact and progress the programme is making as evidenced through a number of productions that participate in the Ishashalazi Theatre Festival, written and directed by women and members of the LGBTQI community”; adds MEC Hlophe.

The workshops will be facilitated by seasoned and highly acclaimed individuals who are experienced in the scriptwriting and directing field. Play Scriptwriting will be facilitated by Mxolisi Norman and Chuma Mapoma, while Stage Directing will be done by Zukiswa Angel Ndunge. Boitshoko Mfolo will facilitate Film Production.
