Bafana Bafana beat the DR Congo 1-0 in an exciting international friendly match played at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night to extend their unbeaten run to nine games.
Lyle Foster scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute to win a game that was played before a vociferous and appreciative crowd on a chilly night in Soweto.
Coach Hugo Broos will be happy with what he saw in the last few days after his charges played to a goalless draw against Namibia at the same venue on Saturday (9 September 2023), and then battled hard to beat the Congolese on Tuesday.
The South African senior national team coach used the two matches as preparation for what awaits the national team in January 2024 when they compete in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
“It was a tough game, but that is why I like to play games like these because you learn a little bit about yourself,” Broos said.
The Bafana Bafana coach said he was pleased with the performance in the two games against the Namibians and the Congolese, even though there is room for improvement.
Bafana Bafana’s winning run began in September last year when coach Broos’ charges beat Sierra Leone and Botswana in two friendlies played at FNB Stadium.
