Kaizer Chiefs were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Royal AM side in a DStv Premiership match played at the iconic FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

Despite the draw, Amakhosi moved up to the fourth spot on the league standings – leapfrogging their arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates, and the Glamour Boys will now take on SuperSport United on Wednesday.

Royal AM, on the other hand, climbed up to the fifth spot in the standings after holding Chiefs in Johannesburg and Thwihli Thwahla will now lock horns with Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.

Thwihli Thwahla were fearless in the opening exchanges as they attacked Amakhosi in numbers, but the hosts looked dangerous on transition with Ashley du Preez hitting the side-netting in the 17th minute after a quick counterattack.

Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was called into action in the 27th minute and he denied Hopewell Cele with a diving save before Edson Castillo hit the crossbar with a long-range effort at the other end in the 33rd minute, and the score was 0-0 at halftime.

Amakhosi were the better side after the restart and Jasond Gonzalez came close to grabbing his first goal in South African football when his looping header was brilliantly tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo in the 65th minute.

The hosts continued to push for a late winning goal with Christian Saile hitting the crossbar from close range in the 71st minute and his fellow substitute Mduduzi Shabala forced Man of the Match Ngcobo into making a fine save from the rebound, and ultimately, the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
