SWALLOWS PLAYERS BUOYANT ABOUT DERBY MATCH AGAINST CHIEFS

Nie Cele

Fifth placed and high riding Moroka Swallows will be hoping their winning streak continues under the mentorship Steve Khomphela in their upcoming Soweto derby match against the on and off Kaizer Chiefs FC at Dobsonville stadium, Soweto this Sunday.

Much needed three points will be at stake for both teams as they lock horns in-front of a capacity crowd. A win for Swallows will see them move up one notch to the fourth position on the DSTV Premiership log while Amakhosi will need a pendulum swing win to consolidate their log standing.

Chiefs are currently placed 10th position on the log and if they manage to beat swallows they will move three notches up the log standings but they will need a spirited performance and luck to achieve a win against the on form Dube Birds.

Speaking to dozens of journalists during the Moroka Swallows  DStv Premiership open day, players were very cagey about this encounter. All of them echoed same sentiment that its one game at a time. They also pointed out the match is going to be an interesting good match.

Birds Central defender, Keegan Allan told journalists they were looking forward for a tough match.

“We are aiming to be at the top of the log just like any other team. On personal achievement, I still believe I can achieve more. Our coach has had a great impact on us as players. He has brought a lot of character in the club by giving each player an opportunity to show their worth.”

Swallows Keeper, Daniel Akpei, described the upcoming match as a regular phase of playing like any other team in the PSL. He did not hide his emotions of facing his former team.

“Three points is important for us. Our coach has made his intentions clear about our style of play. Playing a struggling team is very difficult because they will be looking to sustain their standing on the log and will be looking for points everywhere. Its going to be two lions on the pitch come Sunday.”

Swallows Midfielder, Tlakusani Mthethwa, Revealed there is pressure in each and every game they play.

“Before each and every game we plan carefully where to collect points. We need to win its our home game.”
