NINTH EDITION OF JOBURG LADIES OPEN PROMISES FOUR DAYS OF EXHILARATING ACTION

As the countdown begins, anticipation is mounting for the upcoming ninth edition of the Joburg Ladies Open tournament, where elite golfers will vie for the prestigious title.

The City is abuzz with preparations to host yet another world-class golf event amidst the serene surroundings of the Modderfontein Golf Club. Co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Ladies Tour and the Ladies European Tour, the tournament is scheduled to unfold from Thursday, 18 April, to Sunday, 21 April 2024.

Bongi Mokaba, the Director of Events Management for the City of Johannesburg, shares insights into this year’s event, stating: “For the first time, the tournament will span 72 holes, mirroring the format of the men’s competition. “A Sunday finale is bound to draw throngs of spectators,” says Mokaba.

With this format shift, the Joburg Ladies Open promises four days of exhilarating golfing action, showcasing the talents of the world’s finest female golfers.

Beyond the excitement of the sport, the Joburg Ladies Open champions a meaningful cause, echoing the theme of restoring “Dignity for a Girl Child”. It transcends mere competition, serving as a platform for empowering and uplifting young girls, advocating for their rights and dignity.

Among the notable competitors are Zethu Myeki, who clinched ninth place at the 2021 Joburg Ladies Open, Nicole Garcia, third place winner at the 2022 Joburg Open, and Casandra Alexander, victorious at the 2021 Joburg Ladies Open. Additionally, Nadia van der Westhuizen, Kiera Floyd, and Lee-Anne Pace, the 2016 Joburg Ladies Open champion, are set to grace the greens.

Continuing its commitment to social impact, the tournament introduces the “Birdies for Dignity” initiative for the second consecutive year, in partnership with retail giant Spar. For every exceptional birdie scored during the tournament, a dignity sanitary pack will be generously donated to young girls in need.

Moreover, the Joburg Ladies Open unveils the exciting “Beat the Pro MSC Cruise” for participants in the pre-event competition, in collaboration with MSC Cruise. Lucky winners will embark on an all-expenses-paid cruise adventure, courtesy of MSC Cruise.
