Kasi diski lovers will be kept warm from the winter chill this July with the return of the sizzling hot
DStv eKasi Champ of Champs tournament in Soweto. The now popular tournament, which is a
springboard for the finest talent yase kasi, returns for another competitive edition that pits
Gauteng’s kasi teams against each to earn the bragging rights for the tag of ‘the best kasi team in the province’.
During last night’s live draw at the SuperSport studios, a strong, competitive field of eight teams were drawn into two groups of four teams each and will battle it out for the title between 11th until 21st July 2024.
This year’s edition of the games will take place at the Orlando East Grounds for the round robin phase, with the semifinals and finals set to be played at the Moletsane Sports Complex in Moletsane, on the last weekend.
Five teams qualified for the tournament through winning regional kasi playoff tournaments around Gauteng while the other three teams were voted to partake in the tournament by diski fans from all around the townships in the province.
The previous tournaments showcased lots of skill, flair and flamboyance and featured kasi diski crowd pullers such as Xolani “Blackberry” Nkala, Tshepo “Skhwama” Matete, Tshepo “Jomo”
Matsimela, Thabo “Wacko Jacko” Mphuti, and Khethokwakhe “Bereza” Masuku, just to name a few.
Some of these players were able to secure professional contracts with teams in the DStv Premiership and ABC Motsepe League, after featuring and impressing at this kasi tournament.
The tournament will once again use a Cup and Plate cup competition format to determine the 2024 winners. Teams will play in a round robin phase, with the two group winners vying for the main prize of R250 000 (Cup) and the bottom two teams battling it out for R70 000 (Plate section).
Football lovers are encouraged to get or stay connected to DStv acess to watch the tournament live on the “Home of Diski” on SuperSport. Every game will be shown live from Soweto from the 11th until the 21st July.
