MISS SOUTH AFRICA NATASHA JOUBERT INSPIRES GIRL LEARNERS IN FIVE-SCHOOL THREE PROVINCE TOUR

Miss South Africa Natasha Joubert conducted a whirlwind five-school, three-province tour around the country this week, dispelling myths about body hair and inspiring girl learners to stand up to peer and social media pressure.

She was launching the First Shave campaign of Intuition South Africa, the official shaving partner of Miss South Africa, introducing the Amka range of products to school girls.

Empowering learners in all areas has been part of Natasha’s advocacy campaign called the Natasha Joubert Collective. Joubert launched a partnership last year with her alma mater Boston City Campus to award bursaries to deserving candidates. Intuition South Africa has now sponsored another 15 study bursaries at Boston.

Said Joubert: “When you are a teenager, there is so much societal pressure around body hair that comes from both your peers as well as from the media and the internet. I am delighted to be speaking to girl learners, discussing Intuition’s role in breaking the cycle of misinformation that exists while creating a safe space for real questions and answers.”

In a packed four-day programme, Natasha talked to girls from Bergvliet High School in Cape Town, Cillié and Lawson Brown High Schools in Gqeberha and Ridgepark College and Queens Girls High in Durban, with the final visit being her very own school Hoerskool Eldoraigne in Centurion.

Miss South Africa discussed her own body positivity journey, telling the learners she’d been a tomboy growing up, underscoring the pressure of “fitting in”. She had been helped to find her authentic self by family and friends.

Body image issues were discussed at the various schools along with the culture around shaving.

“Society had deemed that women should not have body hair and so it is easy to fall prey to judgement regarding this. I wanted the young women to know, first of all, about safe shaving practices. I hope that I helped empower them to make the choices that make them, and nobody else, happy.”

Dylan Hall, Intuition’s Brand Manager, said: “The roadshow exceeded our expectations. Natasha’s message resonated deeply with so many girls. Through Natasha and her Natasha Joubert Collective, we aim to empower girls to follow their intuition and make decisions that truly benefit them. We are committed to supporting them every step of the way.”

Miss South Africa is presented by Weil Entertainment in association with Sun International. S3 is the official broadcast partner.
