Yesterday, MEC for Department of Infrastructure Development and CoGTA, Jacob Mamabolo presented the 2023/2024 Annual Report at the Gauteng Legislature. The purpose of the presentation of the report is to outline the performance milestones achieved by the Department during the financial year under review.

DID is responsible for the implementation of social infrastructure projects on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, a mandate that has seen the Department play a critical role in addressing the needs of communities across Gauteng. The department is responsible for planning, design, construction, restoration, and upgrading of important public institutions such as clinics, hospitals, schools, libraries, and early childhood development centres.

MEC Mamabolo emphasized that the goal is to actively collaborate with empowered, fair, and inclusive citizens. “We are confident that our department has the potential to emerge as a leader in infrastructure delivery, ensuring that all invoices are paid promptly, within the prescribed time, and with a steadfast focus on quality and cost effectiveness.” said the MEC.

The Department was granted R3.773 billion and spent R3.756 billion, resulting in a 99.55% budget utilization. The underspent amount of R16.9 million, which was much less than the previous year’s R112 million, was mostly ascribed to alternative energy, maintenance, legal services, and security. The department’s allocation grew from R3.3 billion the previous year, with an additional R329 million for alternative energy and R100 million for office space.

“We believe that the period under review will provide valuable insights and opportunities to improve the delivery of social infrastructure, while also contributing to economic growth.” Said MEC Mamabolo.
