AFRICAN CHAMPIONS BANYANA TO DON PINK KIT FOR OCTOBER BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

African champions Banyana Banyana will don a special pink kit when they face 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup finalists England in an away international friendly match on 29 October 2024 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

This is part of the South African Football Association (SAFA) campaign “Football Cares”. “Football Cares” is an impactful campaign designed to raise awareness about varied issues affecting the South African society where SAFA can lend a hand.

The first initiative in partnership with PinkDrive NPC is designed to raise awareness of breast cancer in South Africa, promote prevention and encourage early detection. October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month and PinkDrive NPC, South Africa´s best-loved Cancer Community Carer, is driving this campaign.

“Choosing the biggest game in women’s football calendar seeks to not only create awareness in the African continent, but also in a wider global audience so that when the African champions walk out onto that pitch all the fans spread the message amongst their loved ones to get screened so that they know their diagnosis early to prolong their lives. We are excited about the campaign and it’s first initiative in partnership with PinkDrive for the football community led by SAFA to add weight in this awareness drive, together with our sponsors and partners,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan.

Noelene Kotschan, CEO of PinkDrive, said: “PinkDrive’s fundamental purpose is to contribute meaningfully towards preventing as many people as possible from succumbing to breast cancer.  Our primary focus is mobile screening and education for citizens without access to reasonable healthcare in areas where health services do not reach. The partnership with SAFA increased our reach so that we can get our message to all communities we could not reach.”

Banyana Banyana travel to Europe on Monday, 21 October 2024 where they play two international friendly matches against Denmark at Aalborg stadium on Friday, 25 October 2024, and England on Tuesday, 29 October 2024.
