Life for Edward Stewenamp (64) who has been battling with chronic wounds for over a decade took a turn for the better in July this year after receiving specialised treatment at Poly Clinic in Vooslorus, Ekurhuleni.
Stewenamp’s wounds, diagnosed as mixed etiology arterial and ulcer wounds affecting both legs first appeared in 2013. After many failed treatments which includes medical visits, and home remedies and many other traditional methods, he finally sought the help that he needed with the Podiatrist at the clinic.
“The pain used to stop me from doing many things but now I’m able to do what I couldn’t before,” he says, noting how the treatment has enhanced his quality of life.
“Modimakwane is enthusiastic about his work, and even when my wound was at its worst, he treated me respectfully and never showed irritation, even when the wound had a strong odor,” Stewenamp praising Ephraim Modimakwane, the Podiatrist who has been dressing his wounds twice a week since July 2024.
The consistent care and expert attention that Stewenamp has been getting has yielded noticeable results. He is now fitted with compression stockings, commonly known as circulation socks, to reduce the swelling in his legs.
The Poly Clinic is committed to his holistic care which extends beyond wound management. He has been referred to an Occupational Therapist for scar management, ensuring that his long-term recovery is fully supported.
Stewenamp’s journey exemplifies the life-changing impact that dedicated, compassionate wound care can have on a patient. Polly Clinic not only helped to heal his wounds but also gave him the tools and confidence to manage his condition independently. His story is a testament to the importance of specialised care, patient empowerment, and the profound difference that a caring healthcare team can make in someone’s life.
Poly Clinic continues to be a beacon of hope for patients like Stewenamp, offering comprehensive wound care and empowering individuals to reclaim their independence and quality of life.
