African champions Banyana Banyana have settled in Coventry, United Kingdom, and will begin their training session this afternoon ahead of the highly anticipated international friendly against England on Tuesday, 29 October 2024.
This match will be played at Coventry Building Society Arena at 21h45 SA time.
The Sasol-sponsored South African senior women’s national team has been beefed up by the arrival of the four international players who were unable to travel to Friday’s friendly international against Denmark due to residency permits.
Linda Motlhalo, Thembi Kgatlana, Hilda Magaia and Sinoxolo Cesane linked up with the squad on arrival in Coventry, and their experience is welcomed as the test against European champions England will be a huge one for South Africa, who are preparing for next year’s WAFCON.
The “Breadwinner”, Magaia, said they were looking forward to the clash against England and that the team will be focusing on their mission of preparing for the 2025 WAFCON.
“We are always up to the challenge as a team and we are happy that as the Champions of Africa, we will be facing the Champions of Europe. We will be bringing the experience we have acquired over the years, but most importantly, we want to play our football against England and not chase them,” said Magaia.
“We are looking forward to a very competitive match. It will be highly intense, both physically and psychologically. But this is the level we see ourselves on as Banyana Banyana and we want to continue living the impossible.”
