Customers can now check their meter reading dates online
The City of Johannesburg’s ratepayers can now be able to check online when their electricity and water meters would be read.
City’s Spokesman Kgamanyane Maphologela, says the new billing regionalization has made it possible for customers to track online the dates in which they can prepare to have the meter-readers come and read their meters.
“One of the challenges the City faces when trying to read meters is that, the properties they want to read are often inaccessible. The online service can assist customers to note the meter reading dates in their areas and make arrangements so that their meters can be read,” says Maphologela.
The first phase of billing regionalization was launched on the 1st February 2017. The City is planning to launch the second phase of regionalization to include other regions not currently catered for.
Maphologela, says the billing regionalization will see the City streamlining its billing operations which will result in improved billing accuracy, the ability of customers to choose their own due dates, regional meter reading, reduced long estimate billing and audit queries, limiting collection dates and informed reporting per region to afford improvement and problem solving.
Maphologela says with the customers now having the freedom to choose their own dates in which to pay the City between the 15th and the last day of the month, many have so far chosen the 28th as their most preferred due date. The second preferred date the customers have chosen to pay their accounts is the 31st
Customers can check online the meter reading schedules by visiting the City’s website: www.joburg.org.za, click on the e-Services and put in their suburb or area to get the schedule.
Customers wishing to choose their own due dates can do so by visiting any of the City’s Customer Services Centres, phone the Call Centre : 0860 Joburg (562 874) or email to: duedates@joburg.org.za
The first phase of the project started in regions A (Midrand), B (Randburg, Northcliff, and Rosebank), C (Roodepoort) and E (Sandton). The other regions D (Soweto), F (Inner-city) and G (Lenasia, Ennerdale) will be launched this year.
