BROOS ANNOUNCES FINAL BAFANA SQUAD FOR TANZANIA, MOZAMBIQUE CLASHES

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his final squad for next month’s International Friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique.

Broos’ charges face Tanzania at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Friday, 6 June 2025, and then turn their attention to Mozambique on Tuesday, 10 June 2025. The South African senior men’s national team coach said he was happy to see the strides that have been made by South African football in the last few years. The schools U15 Girls team are COSAFA champions and recently participated in the CAF African Schools Football Championship in Ghana where they won the bronze medal. The U15 Boys team are also COSAFA champions and also participated in the CAF African Schools Football Championship.

The SA U17 Men’s National Team, Amajimbos, recently qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup to be held in Qatar in November. The SA U20 Men’s National Team, Amajita, are the African champions after beating Morocco 1-0 in the final at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo this month. They have also qualified for the Under-20 FIFA World Cup to be played in Chile in September 2025.

Banyana Banyana are playing in the #ThreeNations series as they continue with preparations to defend their African title at the Women’s AFCON in July in Morocco. Bafana Bafana qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco in December. The team is also top of the log in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. South Africa has also qualified for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in three East African countries – Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda – in August 2025.

“These are glory days for South African football,” the Bafana Bafana coach said. “The U17s are going to the U17 FIFA World Cup, the U20s are going to the U20 FIFA World Cup. We have qualified for the African Nations Championship, Bafana Bafana have qualified for AFCON and Banyana Banyana have good results. So from the bottom to the highest level, everything is good for the moment.

“But I think we are at a crossroads at the moment because now we have to react as a Football Federation. If we are happy now and just happy, I can assure you in 2-3 years you will not find what we have now. So we have to work very hard now and have a follow-up up not like in the past when there was qualification for AFCON and then after the U20 AFCON or U17 AFCON, the players disappeared and you didn’t see them anymore.”

The team will report for camp in Johannesburg on Sunday, 1 June 2025 and then travel to Polokwane on the same day. Mamelodi Sundowns players were not selected as they will be participating in the FIFA Club World Cup to be played in the United States of America from 14 June – to 13 July 2025.
