The 5th edition of the Telkom Netball Championships (TNC) concluded on 11 July after a high-energy week of competition hosted across Hoërskool DF Malan andLaerskool Toitus, bringing together South Africa’s most promising youth talent, the tournament showcased the depth of netball development across the country and reaffirmed Telkom’s pivotal role as a sponsor committed to youth empowerment through sport.
As title sponsor, Telkom continues to invest in grassroots platforms that create real and lasting opportunities for young South Africans. With the TNC serving as a key developmental milestone, the company’s brand purpose, “The Possible Begins Here” was brought to life throughout the tournament. The event also aligned seamlessly with Telkom’s powerful netball narrative: From the First Pass to the Crown.

This year’s U19 division saw Tshwane A successfully defend their title, followed by Johannesburg A in second and Cape Winelands in third. Beyond team glory, the TNC also celebrated outstanding individual achievements:
- Best Shooter: Kabura Abubakar – Johannesburg
- Best Mid Court Player: Jade Atkins – Tshwane
- Best Defender: Amia Roux – Dr Kenneth Kaunda
- Player of the Tournament: Boitumelo Mokoena – Johannesburg
With more than 90 teams across U17, U18, and U19 categories, the Telkom Netball Championships continue to be a vital scouting and talent-building event in South Africa’s sporting calendar. This year’s tournament also plays a critical role in the formation of the national U17 team, which will represent South Africa at the COSSASA Games in Eswatini this August.
Telkom’s sponsorship of the TNC reflects a strategic commitment to not just elevate the game of netball, but to unlock pathways for young talent, especially young women across the country. With each edition, the Championships grow in reach, impact, and significance, underlining the power of purpose-driven sponsorship in South African sport.
