Platinum Stars are out to stun Baroka FC in their Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter on Tuesday night at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.Kick-of is at 7:30pm.

Although Dikwena are fresh from a 2-0 Absa Premiership loss at the hands of Bidvest Wits on Saturday evening, their mission is to do well in the Ke Yona competition.

However, meeting a team known to have a cup pedigree when it comes to beating the big boys, they will have to fight harder for a win.

Dikwena are a busy side in the second round of the 2016/17 Premier Soccer League campaign, having progressed through to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

To reach the last 16, Dikwena beat National First Division outfit AmaZulu 3-2 to advance to this stage.

The two sides have met three times in the current campaign and Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele have claimed two wins already.

Kgoloko Thobejane’s side beat Stars 1-0 and drew 0-0 in the league before losing 3-1 in the Telkom Knockout, this becomes the fourth meeting.

“We are not over unhappy because we lost, analytically, they are in top and we played a good game against a big team,” said Cavin Jonson.

“We have a big one coming on Tuesday and games are coming thick and fast so we have to put this far behind in our heads.

“Yes, in one moment we have a chance to win something, we are playing against a team that is known to have a kind of Juju for the Nedbank Cup.

“Baroka, the Mr Nedbank….we will have our work cut out, we will have to fight and do our best in order to go through to the next round.”

Looking at the hosts, the Premier Soccer League newcomers are in it to win according to coach Kgoloko Thobejane and are motivated heading to this clash.

Baroka stunned title chasing SuperSport United with a 1-0 win last weekend in their league assignment and will want continuity coming to this one.

The Limpopo-based outfit is aware that escaping relegation remains their primary focus and a priority, but a chance to reach the last eight could also come as huge motivator.

Coming off a 2-0 win over FC Cape Town in the last 32 means they will be out to maintain their good run over Stars.

Baroka remain at the bottom of the log table with 18 points from 22 matches and will now want to put their league disappointing run behind them and kill another giant.

“At first our problem was scoring goals, but we are now scoring and also conceding,” said midfielder Richard Matloga.

“We believe we can honestly do it, which is why we have been putting all this work all along.

“I think I have done well for a player in only his first season in the PSL but what matters most is getting the team out of this position that we are in.

“Personal glory is secondary for me in this situation because the team must survive.”
