The City of Johannesburg continues to use the Joburg Open as a powerful platform to create opportunities and transform the game of golf by opening doors for talented players who might not otherwise access global competition.

Building on the success of previous editions, the City has once again extended sponsor invitations to promising professional golfers — Mark Mart from Eldorado Park, Mandla Mavundla and Karabo Mokoena — who are competing in the 2026 Joburg Open with the hopes of making the cut and showcasing their talent on the international stage.

In 2022, former sponsor invitee Heinrich Bruiners finish an impressive sixth on the leaderboard, highlighting the potential of players who are given the opportunity to compete in world-class tournaments. For Johannesburg, these invitations are about more than participation — they represent a commitment to transformation, development and inclusion in the sport.
Nthatisi Modingoane, Johannesburg’s spokesperson, the invitation forms part of the City’s broader vision to grow the game and provide meaningful opportunities.
“The Joburg Open is a platform that opens doors for talented golfers who may not otherwise have access to international competition. By inviting players such as Mart, Mavundla and Mokoena, we are investing in the future of South African golf and ensuring that the sport becomes more inclusive and representative,” said Modingoane.
