GAUTENG GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER MORE THAN 2 000 TITLE DEEDS TO BENEFICIARIES IN IMPUMELELO

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, together with the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, today handed over more than 2 000 title deeds to deserving beneficiaries at Impumelelo Ext. 4 in the Lesedi Local Municipality.

The handover forms part of the Gauteng Government’s Seriti Saka Campaign, which seeks to restore the dignity of beneficiaries by providing them with security of tenure and formal ownership of their homes.

Premier Lesufi congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to take good care of the properties allocated to them by government.

“As the Gauteng Government, we are providing high-quality houses to South Africans, and we do not want to be accused of handing over houses to foreign nationals because there are no foreign nationals benefiting here today,” said Premier Lesufi.

He further emphasised the importance of protecting these properties for future generations.

“This is a generational asset for your family. Ensure that it is protected and preserved beyond your ownership,” added Lesufi.

Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, echoed the Premier’s sentiments and cautioned beneficiaries against using their title deeds as collateral for loans from loan sharks.

“You must never give your title deed to loan sharks. This property is worth far more than whatever debt you may owe them,” she said.

Motara also urged beneficiaries to keep their title deeds in a safe place and encouraged them to draft wills to protect their families and ensure proper inheritance of their properties.

“Having a will is very important for the remaining members of the family and ensures that your property is passed on in an orderly manner,” said Motara.

The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements remains committed to accelerating the issuing of title deeds across the province as part of government’s broader efforts to empower communities and strengthen property ownership.
