FLYSAFAIR CONTINUES TO BE SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST PUNCTUAL AIRLINE

FlySafair maintains the strongest on-time performance (OTP) of any South African carrier, demonstrating its commitment to reliable customer service.

Throughout 2026, the airline has consistently achieved punctuality levels above 92%, with an OTP of 94.14% in June.OTP is the aviation industry’s standard measure of how reliably an airline adheres to its schedule.

In South Africa, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) independently monitors and publishes OTP data for OR Tambo International Airport, Cape Town International Airport and King Shaka International Airport. The measurement follows International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards, which classify a flight as on time if it departs or arrives within 15 minutes of its scheduled time.

“Airlines operate within a complex ecosystem where factors, often out of their control, such as adverse weather, air traffic management constraints and airport infrastructure challenges, can affect schedules. We’re proud to maintain the strongest OTP in South Africa by minimising the impact of disruptions for our customers and returning operations to schedule as quickly and safely as possible,” says Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.

FlySafair’s performance is reflected across the country’s busiest airports. At OR Tambo International Airport, for example, the airline achieved the top OTP score of 92.31% during May 2026, comfortably exceeding the airport’s overall average target of 87%.

The airline’s strong local performance is complemented by international recognition. Earlier this year, global aviation analytics company Cirium named FlySafair the most on-time airline in the Middle East and Africa region for 2025, with a 91.06% on-time arrival rate. The airline also operated 98.9% of its scheduled flights, placing it among the region’s most reliable carriers.

“For FlySafair, reliability is about more than operational metrics – it is central to our mission of making air travel more accessible to more South Africans. When an airline is on time, it means passengers can plan their trips better and don’t have to wait as long. Reliability is an important part of delivering the value our customers expect from us,” adds Gordon.
