NEW TAXI RANK OPENS AT MALL OF THE SOUTH

Recently the City of Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Transport, Councillor Kenny Kunene together with Redefine Properties, Gauteng Department of Transport, Johannesburg Gauteng National Taxi Association and the South African National Taxi Council-Greater Joburg Region, will open a new taxi rank at the Mall of the South in Aspen Hills.

“To resolve long-standing accessibility and safety challenges for public transit commuters, Redefine Properties funded a R45-million infrastructure upgrade to construct a dedicated, on-premises taxi rank at Mall of the South in Aspen Hills” said MMC Kunene.

Key Operational & Strategic Impact

  • Commuter Safety & Accessibility: Replaces hazardous perimeter drop-offs along Swartkoppies Road and Kliprivier Drive with direct, on-site transit access, shielding shoppers from traffic hazards and inclement weather.
  • Precinct Security & Conflict Reduction: Incorporates 24/7 CCTV and private security monitoring while isolating taxi loops from e-hailing (Uber/Bolt) drop-off points to prevent operational friction.
  • Expanded Regional Reach: Directly connects regional taxi routes from major hubs – including Soweto (Bara), Central Johannesburg (Bree), Katlehong, and Orange Farm, straight to the mall.
