Mamelodi Sundowns wins big at Gauteng Sport Awards 2017

As accustomed, there was glitz and glamour at this year’s Gauteng Sport Awards held at the Silver Star Casino in Mogale City.
MamelodiSundowns swept the boards at these coveted awards. The PSL outfit picked up the hotly contested Team of the year award and their head coach, PitsoMosimane, was declared Coach of the year while their captain HlomphoKekana walked home with the most sought award Sport Personality of the year.
In total a record 18 trophies were handed to deserving frontrunners from different sporting codes. But the main highlight of the evening was the greatest three Lifetime Achievement recipients who were honoured.
SelinahMetsing, Maurizio Mariano and former world champion and boxing legendPeter ‘Terror’ Mathebula.
Mathebula charmed the packed audience when he said, “I hope there will be another time for a boxer from this country who will fight and win a world title in a foreign land.”
The glittering star-studded occasion was attended by MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation,Faith Mazibuko, MEC for education, PanyazaLesufi, mayors, officials, MMC’s and dignitaries from the Rand west municipality.
Mazibuko, told the audience that this was a spectacular evening.
“ Gauteng, take a bow. I’m proud of how our achievers were honoured and the worthy winners celebrated. This is a special project of the department and we wish to see it grow in leaps and bounds in years to come.”
