BASIC EDUCATION PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE WISHES THE CLASS OF 2017 GOOD LUCK

 

Nomalungelo Gina, is Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Basic Education. 

 Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Basic Education wishes all candidates enrolled for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) well for the examinations, which commence in earnest tomorrow when all learners write English.

 

Some Grade 12 learners have already started writing the NSC examinations. Foreign languages such Hindi, Gujarati, Arabic, Italian, Spanish and Modern Greek were written today. Those learners taking Computer Applications Technology and Information Technology wrote examinations last week. The examinations will end on 28 November 2017 with Agricultural Management Practices.

 

Committee Chairperson Ms Nomalungelo Gina said: “We would like to wish all candidates the best of luck with this upcoming NSC examinations. We urge them to continue working hard and to keep their focus. This is a culmination of the last 12 years of schooling. Do not to lose focus now, as the goal posts are in sight.”

 

Referring to learners in areas that experienced some instability during the year, such as Limpopo, Ms Gina said: “Candidates need to put in the extra effort to ensure they are successful. Educators have done their utmost to ensure the curriculum was completed and learners had make-up lessons.

 

“Furthermore, we would like to appeal to parents, family, friends, educators, officials and the community at large to help create the best conditions for these learners to study.”

 

There are 798 289 candidates registered for this year’s NSC examination: 636 814 full-time and 161 475 part-time candidates. KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng have the largest enrolments again with 169 023 and 112,164 respectively. Limpopo has 110 639 while Eastern Cape registered 92 755 candidates for the 2017 exams. Mpumalanga has 70 941, the Western Cape 65 675, North West 40 118, the Free State 32 399 and the Northern Cape has 13 020

candidates.

 

The Committee further urges parents, family members and caregivers to provide candidates with support in every possible manner and to ensure that they have sufficient study time and a conducive environment for the examinations. The Committee further wishes teachers and invigilators luck with the task ahead. “We want everyone to be at their best to ensure credible NSC examinations for 2017,” said Ms Gina.-Press Release
