Safa match official dies

6 November 2018 — The South African Football Association (SAFA) is in mourning following the passing on of one of the up and coming referees, Raymond Segapo, who officiated mostly in the ABC Motsepe Northern Cape provincial league.

Segapo passed on last week Thursday (1 November) and will be laid to rest this coming weekend on 10 November 2018 at Ikhutseng township near Warrenton in the Northern Cape.

SAFA’s Head of Referees Department, Tenda Masikhwa, expressed shock at the sudden death of Segapo saying he was deeply saddened by the news.

“The nation has lost one of the most promising talents. We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of our one of our promising officials,” Masikhwa said.

“Segapo was energetic and his ambition was officiating at the highest level, the Premier Soccer League one day. We truly lost a talent here and on behalf of the Association and football fraternity, I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to the family and wish them nothing but strength in these trying times.”
