Leopards lose again

CITY EDGE PAST LEOPARDS

Cape Town City recorded a second successive Absa Premiership win with a 3-1 victory over Black Leopards at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ayanda Patosi, Allan Kateregga and Siphelele Mthembu found the back of the net for the Citizens who climb up to eighth place on the log standings. Mwape Musonda scored Lidoda Duvha’s solitary goal with defeat leaving the Limpopo side in 14th place, a mere point above the relegation zone.

The hosts looked threatening from the onset and should’ve opened the scoring with eight minutes on the clock, but King Ndlovu denied Mthembu from point-blank range.

City, though, would find their goal two minutes later as Surprise Ralani teed up Patosi who fired home into the roof of the net to give the hosts a deserved lead, with what was his third goal of the campaign.

Patosi then squandered a chance to complete his brace in the 21st minute with the attacker horribly miscuing his effort with the goal at his mercy.

To add insult to injury, Leopards duly levelled matters moments later as Musonda sprung the offside trap before rounding City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh and passing the ball into an empty net.

The Citizens regained control of the clash in the 39th minute through Kateregga. Slick combination play by the hosts opened up the Lidoda Duvha defence and the Ugandan international was left with an easy finish, following a square ball by Thabo Nodada with the home side taking a narrow lead into the break.

Leopards conjured the first chance of the second half through Musonda who’s rasping effort was well saved by Leeuwenburgh before Marks Munyai dragged the rebound narrowly wide on the hour mark.

The visitors were the better side for most of the second stanza, but City would seal all three points with a header from Mthembu in the 85th minute. Roland Putsche showcased great determination to keep the ball in play and set up his teammate who made no mistake from close range.
