DA GAMA SOUNDS WARNING TO ABSA PREMIERSHIP RIVALS

  • 30 JUL 2019

Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama has warned the rest of the Absa Premiership not to underestimate his side as they chase top honours this season.

Highlands open their campaign at home to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, and having claimed a surprise MTN8 spot for the new campaign, Da Gama says they are a club on the rise.

“Last year we have paid our school fees and this year we are aiming to do better. If you ask me which position are we targeting, it’s No 1!” Da Gama told reporters.

Da Gama also played down suggestions that his side play a physical style, rather than flowing football.

“Last season we had many man of the matches in the team! Eight players got these awards and it motivated them. You don’t get those awards by kicking people around the field.”

The coach also hailed the arrival of striker Rodney Ramagalela from Polokwane City.

“We’ve brought in Ramagalela and he’s on fire these days. The good part is that I speak Tshivenda, so others will struggle to hear when I give him instructions during the game.”

Da Gama has warned that his side will make the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa a fortress and says they have no fear of Chiefs this weekend.

“If Kaizer Chiefs is going to change their style of play and be more physically, they must bring it on. We will be more than happy with that,” he said.

“You certainly feel us when you come to Makhulong Stadium. Ask others, with utmost respect to Kaizer Chiefs. We respect them, but certainly don’t fear them.”© Mzansi Football
