Polokwane City snapped their winless run in the Absa Premiership with a 3-2 win over Cape Town City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon.
Walter Musona, Eden Nene and Puleng Tlolane found the back of the net for the hosts as they move off the bottom of the league table and up to 15th. The Citizens remain in 11th spot just four points above the relegation zone.
Edmilson Dove and Taariq Fielies were on target for City on the day while the visitors ended the game with 10-men following the late sending off of Ioannis Potouridis.
Rise and Shine got off to the perfect start in the Limpopo province as Musona fired the home side in front after just 10 minutes.
Their lead, though, was short-lived as Edmilson powered home a header, but Polokwane hit straight back through Nene as the hosts took a narrow lead into the halftime break.
The Citizens levelled matters once more as Fielies nodded home the equaliser on the hour mark, but as they did in the first-half, Polokwane restored their advantage soon after as Tlolane found the back of the net.
City pushed forward in search of a late goal, but their hopes of conjuring a point were dealt a blow as Potouridis received his marching orders with two minutes of regulation time remaining following a second bookable offence.
Rise and Shine duly managed to hold on as they secured only their second win in their last 16 league matches.
