MAKGOPA INSPIRES BAROKA TO LIMPOPO DERBY WIN

Baroka FC recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Black Leopards in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The victory took Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele to the 13th spot on the league standings, while Lidoda Duvha remained 15th on the log.

The two Limpopo teams started the match brightly – launching attacks as they searched for an early goal.

Leopards goalkeeper Rotshidzwa Muleka had to produce a decent save from Manuel Kambala’s header 10 minutes into the encounter.

Muleka’s counterpart Elvis Chipezeze then became a very busy man in the Baroka goal-posts as he produced two great saves to deny Mwape Musonda and Mogakolodi Ngele.

The hosts had a great chance to break the deadlock from close range just after the half-hour mark, but somehow Evidence Makgopa missed the target.

It was end-to-end stuff as Baroka defender Denwin Farmer came close to scoring an own-goal from Ngele’s free-kick, with the ball hitting the woodwork.

At the other end, Makgopa made amends for his earlier miss as he pounced following a mistake by Chris Katjiuka and beat Muleka to make it 1-0 to Leopards in the 40th minute.

Baroka were leading 1-0 during the halftime break following an entertaining first-half.

Lefa Hlongwane was introduced at the beginning of the second-half as the visitors searched for the equalising goal.

Lidoda Duvha pressed Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele and they played crosses into the box which were cleared away by the home side’s defence.

The hosts looked dangerous every time they pushed forward and they managed to double their lead following another mistake by Alan Clark’s men with 11 minutes left.

Muleka missed the ball after coming off his goal-line and Makgopa pounced and scored from close range to make it 2-0 to Baroka – completing his brace in the process.

The visitors launched late attacks in search of a late consolation goal, but the hosts were solid at the back and ultimately, Baroka ran out 2-0 winners over an error-ridden Leopards side.
