ABSA RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K

The proudly African bank, Absa, is proud to announce that since the 2023 Absa Run Your City series started on 2 April in Gqeberha, they have managed to raise just over R420 000. This is through their campaign titled Together we do more, Siyabangena, an initiative aimed at encouraging Absa colleagues, customers and community members to be an active force for good and raise funds via the Strava community to donate towards community upliftment. For every 1km run/walked by a Team Absa member on Strava, the bank donates R1 to make a difference in the community.

Absa announced its four-year partnership with the Run Your City series of events in 2021, with the bold goal to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Then, last year, the series was extended from three to five cities – with the addition of Gqeberha and Tshwane as host cities.

Part of our strategy is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and our Absa Team Walk Run community on Strava, along with everyone that has participated on race days at Gqeberha and Cape Town and the running billboards, have collectively raised over R420 000 by simply clocking their kilometres. This incredible achievement demonstrates the commitment of our participants and the power of collective action. Now, it’s Durban’s turn to step up and participate,” says Sydney Mbhele, Absa’s Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer.

To join the Force for Good movement and contribute, it’s as easy as downloading the Strava App, joining Team Absa Walk Run and lacing up – whether it is to hop on the running billboard while it is in Durban, or simply going for a walk/run around the block, etc. Absa colleagues, customers and community members are encouraged to join Team Absa Walk Run and track their kilometres every time that they walk or run to create a greater impact.

To join in the fun activity and clock your kilometres, visit the running billboard at:

  • The Workshop Shopping Centre on Friday, 7 July from 09:00 to 16:00
  • The Globe, Suncoast on Saturday, 8 July
    • Saturday, 09:00 to 14:00

“Downloading the Strava App and signing up under Team Absa Walk Run will provide everyone with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their neighbourhoods. We believe in a united community and what we can achieve when we collaborate. Last year, we donated R175 000 to LIV Village, and hope that this year we’ll have more runners and walkers participating so that we continue being an active force for good and creating a lasting change to transform the lives of those who need it the most,” Mbhele concludes.
