AJAX STILL ON TOP AND TV ACTION THIS WEEKEND

  • 28 FEB 2020

After 21 games, the GladAdfrica Championship battle is far from being decided despite a number of clubs putting their hand up as strong contenders to the crown.

With only nine fixtures to go, Ajax Cape Town sit at the top of the GladAfrica Championship log with 42 points. They enjoy a five points gap from their nearest rivals. But they Cape Town side knows that it is still too early to celebrate. Memories of the previous season where they were in a strong contention for the Promotion Play-off spot only to hit serious turbulences towards the end must still be fresh in their minds.

A lot has happened at the Ajax Cape Town camp including major changes in the technical team, but they have reinforced their playing personnel including bringing the likes of Deolin Mekoa to bolster their chances. This weekend, they play Jomo Cosmos at Olen Park on Sunday at 15h30.

Uthongathi, currently second on the log, are on 37 points. Uthongathi have been one of the most impressive clubs in the GladAfrica Championship this season. They have played with penance but at times have struggled to convert good performances into three points. With veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe as their recruit, the club from KwaZulu Natal is showing clear intention of contesting top spot.

Completing the GladAfrica Championship top three is Swallows FC – a club that had an indifferent start to the season. Swallows FC have quietly climbed the ladder and find themselves on the same number of points as Uthongathi (37)

TV matches this weekend:

Royal Eagles, who are on a struggle for survival, will play high-riding Swallows FC on Sunday, 01 March 2020 at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The match will kick-off at 13h00.

Eagles are at the foot of the log standings with 17 points from 21 matches. They desperately need the three points against a Swallows side that is on-form.

The battle for survival:

The battle for survival at the bottom of the log is also another musical chairs. Together with Royal Eagles who are at the bottom, Mbombela United, Jomo Cosmos and TS Sporting are all still involved in a fight for survival.
