Amajita vs Sudan

A tricky task ahead of us – Senong

The Burger King-sponsored South African u20 Men’s National Team will have their hands full when they go head to head with Sudan in a crucial Group B encounter at Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia.

The match will be played on Sunday, 5 March.

The two countries have never met in any international tournament and the clash tomorrow will be a vital one for both nations.

Sudan currently sits rock bottom of the table with no win, following a 1-all draw against Senegal and a 4-1 loss to Cameroon. They have one point.

South Africa is second with three points in two matches – 3-1 win over Cameroon and 3-4 loss to Senegal.

That Sudan hasn’t won a single match in the tournament but is still in contention for a semifinal place, makes this encounter tricky for Amajita.

“It is a very tricky match that we are facing, more so we have never played them before. We have been analyzing them and watched a few of their matches. They rotate their playing formations quite a bit – their approach in the one-all draw against Senegal was very different to the 4-1 loss to Cameroon,” said Amajita head coach Thabo Senong.

“With that said, our approach to the match will be very simple – we need to play to our strengths, we need to focus on what we can do well as a team. We are well aware of how dangerous they can be, especially as they have a slight chance of qualification, but we will be ready. We had a good session with the players yesterday (Friday, 3 March) where we needed to remind them of their capabilities – we needed to remind them that they are a formidable side and that they can qualify for the semi finals.”

The clash between the Falcons of Jediane and Amajita will be live on Supersport 9.

Cameroon will take on Senegal in the other Group B encounter at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Both matches kickoff at 15h00.
