AMAZULU WIN AGAINST BAROKA IN POLOKWANE

AmaZulu FC recorded a 1-0 win over Baroka FC in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the victory, Usuthu remained 15th on the league standings, while Bakgaga slipped down to 14th place on the table.

Usuthu adopted an attacking approach, with strikers Lehlohonolo Majoro and Bonginkosi Ntuli starting in attack.

The duo was lively in the opening stages of the match as they combined before setting up Siyethemba Sithebe.

However, the AmaZulu attacking midfielder’s shot at goal was blocked inside the Baroka box 21 minutes into the match.

Bakgaga did threaten through Martin Nsimba just after the half-hour mark, but the midfielder’s effort went wide of the target.

The last chance of the first-half fell for Sithebe after he was set-up by Ntuli a few minutes before the halftime break.

The dreadlocked attacker fired over the crossbar and the score was 0-0 between Baroka and AmaZulu at the interval.

Usuthu pushed for the opening goal after the restart and they were awarded a penalty after Nsimba was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Ntuli then stepped up and beat Baroka goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze from the spot-kick to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu in the 51st minute.

Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda introduced Orebotse Mongae as the hosts looked to restore parity after the hour mark.

Bakgaga attacked in numbers, but they were left vulnerable at the back and they were nearly punished by Sphesihle Maduna.

The attacking midfielder was sent through on goal in the 77th minute, but somehow the youngster placed his effort over the crossbar.

The hosts pushed for a late equalising goal, but the visitors stood firm at the back and ultimately, AmaZulu emerged 1-0 winners on the day.
