Bafana Bafana finished this year’s COSAFA Cup edition on a high winning the Plate title after beating Botswana 2-1 in a pulsating final that took place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday.
Bafana Bafana’s first goal came in the first period through attacking midfielder, Antonio van Wyk, who capitalised on a failed defensive clearance from Botswana inside the box. Van Wyk could have made it 2-0 before the halftime break, however, his shot went a whisker wide after pulling a powerful shot inside the 18-yard area.
In the second period of the match, South Africa created plenty of scoring opportunities than their opponents. Their efforts were rewarded in the 78th minute when Selaelo Rasebotja converted his first Bafana Bafana goal following his senior debut against Mozambique in the first game of the tournament. Botswana could only score a consolation goal through Thato Rebue in the referee’s optional time as South Africa continued keeping matters tight at the back.
