Baroka FC claimed Limpopo Derby bragging rights with a 3-1 DStv Premiership win over Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Tuesday evening.

First-half goals from Richard Mbulu (two) and Evedence Makgopa set the platform for Bakgaga. Leopards scored via an own goal from Phelalani Shozi before having Tebogo Makobela sent off.

Bakgaga got off to the perfect start as Mbulu rattled the back of the net within the opening minute of the game. A long ball forward by Cheslyn Jampies found the towering forward who nodded home with King Ndlovu caught in no man’s land.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 33rd minute as Makgopa powered home Nhlanhla Mgaga’s corner-kick.

Mbulu, who had failed to find the back of the net in 29 appearances across all competitions last season, completed his brace on the cusp of half-time: getting down low to steer Thami Masiya’s cross into the back of the net.

Leopards pulled a goal back through a Shozi own goal on the hour mark, but their chances of a comeback were stifled as Makobela received his marching orders soon after.

In the end, Baroka eased to a comfortable win as they moved up to the summit of the log standings before tomorrow’s cluster of fixtures.
