Celebrate Easter at home with these Android apps

For many South Africans, Easter is traditionally a time to spend with family and community. But this year, we need to be physically distant from many of the people we love, as we mark the most important holiday on the Christian calendar.

Though technology cannot completely close the gap, it can enable us to stay in touch with friends, family and church members during this time. Alcatel suggests some apps that you can download to connect with loved ones and show them that they’re in your thoughts over the Easter weekend:

1.       Facebook

The Facebook app is a handy way to stay connected with your friends and family for this time that you cannot get together in the real world. Plus, your church group may already have set up a Facebook page of its own for your congregation. Some churches around the world are streaming their services to reach people at this time, when large gatherings are not possible.

2.       Living Bible (Modern English)

The Living Bible is a complete offline bible that does not require an internet connection for you to study the scriptures. With features such as the ability to share Bible verses with others and advanced search, it can be a source of comfort at a time you cannot attend church.

3.       Kitchen Stories – Recipes & Cooking

Millions of users around the world are already cooking with Kitchen Stories, the winner of Google Play’s Design Award. Get inspiration for your Easter meals from thousands of free recipes, HD instructional videos, and articles about cooking and baking. You can also publish your own recipes to share with a global community of home cooks.

4.       Easter Egg Hunt Free

The Great Easter Egg Hunt is part game and part craft activity. It will keep the kids entertained while decorating and hunting for Easter eggs. Ask the app to hide the eggs automatically or create new hunts by hiding the eggs yourself. You can save the hunts you create and let the kids find them later.

5.       Easter Games

This action-packed, educational Easter app includes 15 puzzle and action minigames for little ones. It teaches children shapes, image recognition and number pronunciation. Kids will learn to recognise common symbols of Easter: Candles, eggs, rabbits, and lambs.

6.       Happy Easter Photo Frames

Decorate your photos with Easter frames, Easter stickers and overlay effects to create memorable greeting cards for friends and family.

7.       TouchNote

You can use this app to design, customise and send Easter cards, postcards, and greeting cards with just a few taps. Add a meaningful message to your picture and share fond memories – it’s a good way to stay in touch with those you love.

8.       Holiday Word Search Puzzles

Looking for some diversion over the long weekend? This word search app includes an Easter theme for this time of the year.

9.       Happy Easter Images

Happy Easter Images offers a selection of captions and images you can share with your friends and family. There are more than 100 pictures to choose from.
