Bloemfontein Celtic dropped out of the top eight after playing to a goalless draw against Golden Arrows at the Ellis Park Stadium on Wednesday night.
The result left Celtic in ninth place on the table with 36 points, two points behind eighth placed Highlands who beat Cape Town City 1-0 on Wednesday night as well. Arrows, on the other hand, are in 11th place on the table with 34 points.
The Durban side started the better of the two teams with when Siyavuya Ndlovu met a Lindokuhle Mtshali free-kick in the third minute, but his ten-yard header went just over the target.
That was about as exciting as it got in the opening half hour with both teams squandering possession due to poor passing and bad decision making.
Celtic were the next to really threaten when a Menzi Masuku free-kick was cleared off the goalline by Matome Mathiane.
Just before the break Nduduzo Sibiya broke through on goal, but he failed to beat the Celtic keeper in a one-on-one as the half ended 0-0.
Arrows came out firing in the second half and came close to scoring when a 20-yard set-piece from Mutizwa shaved the wrong side of the post in the 52nd minute.
Five minutes later Celtic were on the attack and only a brilliant save from Sifiso Mlungwana kept the scores level as he denied Ndumiso Mabena from the edge of the box.
Celtic controlled the remainder of the match, but despite their dominance they could not fashion any decent scoring chances as Arrows held on for a share of the spoils.
