As the games keep rolling, with Amakhosi finding themselves on their third fixture in the short space of seven days, the team will travel to the capital city of Tshwane to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
The game will determine which team makes it to the final, after they played to a 1-1 draw in the first instalment of the two-legged affair. Sundowns hold a slight advantage from the first leg’s result, as they managed to score an away goal.
Both teams were in action on Wednesday, where Chiefs lost 1-0 against SuperSport United in Polokwane, while Sundowns were 1-0 winners in their game against Orlando Pirates in Orlando, Soweto.
The winner-takes-all MTN8 competition will see the winners pocket R8-million for lifting the trophy, with each of the other seven teams receiving R800 000.
Following some unpleasant scenes at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has come out very strongly against hooliganism and the throwing of objects onto the pitch by unhappy supporters.
“We do not condone such behaviour and we call on the SA Police to act swiftly against people who do such acts, as they endanger the lives of many people who are at the stadium to enjoy the match. We know things have not gone well but it’s not all doom and gloom. It’s still early in the season and there’s still a lot to fight for. The technical team and the players are working hard to ensure that we put smiles on supporters’ faces, but for that to happen it is important that we need to exercise patience,” she says.
“I encourage supporters in Gauteng and surrounding areas to get their new Kappa apparel and wear it to get behind their team in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon. Let’s all be safe and enjoy the beautiful game in peace,” Ms. Motaung adds
