CITY BEAT GALAXY IN FIVE-GOAL THRILLER

Cape Town City moved up to fourth spot on the 2020-21 DStv Premiership standings following a 3-2 win over TS Galaxy at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

All five goals came in the first half with Bradley Ralani, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tashreeq Morris on target for the hosts while Mxolosi Macuphu bagged a double for the visitors.

The result extended City’s unbeaten run in the league to five matches and while the Rockets continue to occupy 11th spot, it was their third straight loss in the league.

City opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Ralani pounced onto a miscued back pass from Given Msimango before chipping the ball over the onrushing Wensten van der Linde, but their lead was short lived as Machuphu powered the ball home three minutes later at the other end of the pitch.

The former Bidvest Wits forward completed his brace in the 32nd minute, converting from the spot following a handball in the area, but the Citizens responded in equally impressive fashion.

Mdantsane himself made no mistake from the penalty mark as he scored his fifth goal of the season and City would take the lead before the halftime whistle as Morris found the back of the net in stoppage-time, to bring an end to an enthralling passage of play.

There were no further goals to follow after the break as City ended the year in style while Galaxy are left with a lot to rectify in 2021.
