The City of Johannesburg’s Finance Department recently concluded a series of targeted stakeholder engagement sessions aimed at unpacking the City’s approved tariffs for the 2025/26 financial year.
These sessions form part of the City’s broader drive to promote transparency and foster stronger partnerships with the media, business community and City councillors.
Key topics covered included the rationale behind cost-reflective tariffs, the financial sustainability of municipal services and the need to balance affordability with reliable service delivery. City officials assured stakeholders that revenue raised through tariffs directly supports critical services such as water, electricity, refuse collection and sanitation.
Business stakeholders, in particular, were invited to raise their views on how tariff adjustments may impact operations and to suggest ways to improve future engagements. This platform enabled meaningful dialogue between the private sector and the City, reinforcing Johannesburg’s vision of remaining a competitive, business-friendly metropolis.
For councillors, the engagement ensured they are well-equipped to answer community questions and manage public expectations.
