COACH RULANI HEAP PRAISE ON HIS SIDE AFTER STELLENBOSCH VICTORY

Mamelodi Sundowns continued their winning start to the league campaign as their recorded an 8th straight win at home against Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday evening at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Goals from Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Siyabonga Mabena would be enough to overturn an early deficit and see Bafana Ba Style continue the early season trend of winning all of their domestic league matches.

Speaking after the game, Coach Rulani praised his team for the effort they put into securing the win in difficult conditions.

“It was a difficult game against a very good side, you know they are a team that can defend a 1-0. I was a little bit unhappy about [conceding] because it’s something that we worked on, but we came back and we showed good character to come back and make it 1-1.”

“To go 2–1 up at halftime was a very good demonstration of the mentality of this group, and we kept playing, which is good because it’s not easy to keep playing against this Stellenbosh team, the are very well coached.”

The Brazilians outfit was heavily rotated following the weekend’s triumph over Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8, and the coach relfected on how the players that came into the line up were able to perform well and help the team get the win:

“It was a good performance especially when you consider the number rotations, Reyaad Pieterse came in, [Bongani] Zungu, got good minutes & so did Mosa Lebusa. Lebo [Maboe] came in after a long long time out and did well. Thapelo Morena and Thapelo Maseko [did well] and it was good to see the young [Siyabonga] Mabena scoring.”

The victory for Mokwena’s men marked a 32nd consecutive game unbeaten in the league, setting a league record for the longest unbeaten streak in the PSL era. Coach Rulani expressed his delight and pride in the club’s ability to reach this milestone:

“I’m very proud of the players, and the technical team. We’re very proud of our supporters, for staying for so long and singing and helping the players. We have a big sense of appreciation. And [congratulations to] everybody from senior management to backroom staff and everyone involved, it’s a big big result against the only side to have beaten us so far.”

Masandawana will have little time to dwell on their midweek victory as they turn their attention to Continental duty as they gear up to take on Bumamuru FC in the second league of their Champions League Qualifier at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
