As South Africa proudly marks 30 years of democracy, we are reminded of the profound impact women have had on our nation’s journey to freedom and equality. It is within this context that Sheer Entertainment and Breakout Events in collaboration with the South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) announce the return of the 6th annual Malibongwe Artist Festival “Tribute To Women”, a celebration that honours the strength, resilience, and creativity of women in South Africa and beyond.

This year’s concert will be held on Sunday, 25 August 2024, at Mark’s Park in Emmerentia from 10 AM to 6 PM, promising a day of unforgettable experiences.

The heartbeat of this year’s “Tribute To Women” concert lies in its powerful line-up, featuring icons like Zonke, Ringo Madlingozi, Mafikizolo, Jaziel Brothers, Nomfundo Moh, Kelvin Momo, and Lwah Ndlunkulu. These artists, through their soulful melodies and evocative performances, will pay homage to the women who have shaped our cultural and social landscapes.

“Our journey with Malibongwe Art Festival has been one of growth and evolution, mirroring the dynamic spirit of South African women. Last year, we were honoured to host 8000 attendees, and this year, we anticipate an even greater turnout. This festival is a collective celebration of our heritage and the transformative power of women’s contributions to our society,” shares Joe Chakela of Sheer Entertainment.

Reflecting on our journey, we are compelled to celebrate the remarkable contributions of South African women over the past three decades. From the valiant struggle against apartheid to their pivotal roles in building a democratic nation, women have been at the forefront of change.

Figures like Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, a medical doctor and anti-apartheid activist, have inspired countless individuals with her unwavering commitment to social justice and education; Desire Ellis who was voted CAF Woman coach of the year from 2018 to 2023 and qualified Banyana Banyana to the knockout rounds of the Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history; Laura Wolvaardt who recorded the highest runs in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup in 2023; Kgothatso Montjane who won the Women Singles title and Doubles title in the disabled category at the Wimbledon Tennis in 2021 and 2024 respectively, a first for a South African woman tennis player in the history of the tournament; the first female Deputy Chief Justice (and soon to be Chief Justice) Mandisa Maya; and musician Nomcebo Zikode who won a Grammy award in January 2023 following in the footsteps of Miriam Makeba, just to highlight a few.

The “Tribute To Women” concert is more than a musical gathering; it is a tribute to these extraordinary women and many others whose legacies continue to inspire. Their courage and dedication resonate in every note sung and every melody played at Malibongwe Art Festival.

This year, as we celebrate 30 years of democracy, we also commemorate the victories and strides made by women in various fields. The festival is a testament to their enduring spirit and a platform to amplify their voices. Attendees can expect a rich tapestry of music, art, and culture, intertwined with stories of triumph and perseverance. From electrifying live performances to engaging art and lifestyle activations, the event promises to uplift and empower.

Join us at Mark’s Park, Emmerentia, on Sunday, 25 August 2024, as we come together to celebrate the women who have shaped our past and continue to influence our future, and connect with Malibongwe Artist Festival “Tribute To Women” on social media for more news.
