DISCOVERY CHALLENGE FANS WAITING WITH BATED BREATH TO SEE WHO WILL REACH THE FINAL

With Barely any days left before we witness the final of the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge, football loving fans are waiting with bated breath for December 29th, Sunday to see who will actually lift the prestigious trophy this time around at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto.

Kamogelo Moka Mohapi, University of Johannesburg (UJ) civil engineering student all the way from Lawley, Westonaria to Soweto Klipspruit is a big fan of the Discovery Challenge and has been watching the tournament for the past five years.

Mohapi said that Sneke Chillers are likely to win the 17th edition of the tournament.

“It is tough to say but I think Sneke Chillers will win it. They are really a strong team and have the necessary expertise to take it again but you know football is a funny game. There’s this team called Sabelo Super Stars who are the underdogs, they might just scoop the trophy under our noses. Sabelo Super Stars have a good defence and that’s the reason they win most of their games they just seat back and invite the opponents and hit them on a counter-attack.

“I still say though that Sneke Chiliers stand a good chance of winning this tournament again with key players like right winger Bongani ‘Nana’ Manana playmaker, in the central midfield they have Bongani ‘JD Hlophe and the experience of former Free State Stars man in Katlego Mashego controlling things in the middle of the park. There’s also Tumelo Mogale, the factory of passes,” said Mohapi.

We are reaching the business end of the tournament with only four teams left in Sneke Chilliers, Sabelo Super Stars, Dube Continental and Strokes.

In the quarterfinals Sabelo Super Stars beat River Park on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time. Dube Continental made light work of Meadowlands Harmony as they comfortably eased out 5-0 with Shokane ‘Uber’ Mahlatsi scoring all the five goals for Continental to take his tally of goals to 17 in just nine games.

Flamingo did the unthinkable when they shocked Strokes FC 4-2 on penalties after the game ended in a 2-2 thrilling draw while the defending champions Sneke Chlliers demolished the 2017 champions La-Masia 3-0.

The Flamingo FC side is patiently and quietly going about its business and they are one win away from reaching their first ever Discovery Challenge final.
