9 October 2018 – Mamelodi Sundowns’ hopes of defending their Gauteng Sasol League crown are slowly fading away as the season enters its closing stages. Even with five games in hand compared to log leaders and crosstown rivals TUT Football Club, the defending champions have not been at their best this season.

Sundowns did however show their championship pedigree this past weekend when they thrashed fellow title contenders, JVW 5-0 at home and will be hoping to continue in that form on Wednesday, 10 October when they take on University of Johannesburg in Auckland Park.

Meanwhile, TUT will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table when they welcome sixth placed Palace Super Falcons who are fresh from a hard-fought 3-2 victory over second placed Croesus FC on Saturday.

Even with the 5-0 humiliation suffered at the hands of Sundowns, JVW are still within a touching distance of clinching the title. They will have to immediately put the loss behind them when they face Blue Birds who are working hard to move up the ladder.

Another Tshwane derby is on the cards this weekend as TUKS welcomes Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports School while Springs Homes Sweepers play host to Soweto Fabulous who have shown great improvement in the second half of the season.
