BAROKA VS SUNDOWNS: MATCH FACTS

This will be the first ever meeting between Baroka FC and Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout competition, or any other knockout fixture for that matter.

– FULL MATCH PACK

Baroka FC have exited the Telkom Knockout at the quarterfinal stage in the last two seasons and will hope to do better than that this time round.

The club have at least seen goals in their Telkom Knockout matches – there have been 15 in the five games they have played. Baroka have scored nine and conceded six.

Baroka have been involved in 10 cup matches in all competitions in their Premier Soccer League history. They have won six and lost four.

The teams have clashed on four occasions in the league, with Sundowns victorious in three of those and the other game drawn. Sundowns have won both their previous away trips to face Baroka, 1-0 and 2-1.

Sundowns have played a total of 66 matches in the Telkom Knockout in the PSL era, winning 37 of those to go with 13 draws and 16 defeats. They have scored 105 goals in that time and conceded 60, while they have faced 22 different opponents.

Baroka reached this stage of the competition with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in the first round, which included a goal after just 15 seconds from Collins Makgaka! Tebogo Sodi later added a second.

Sundowns moved into the quarterfinals after a 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic, with Gaston Sirino netting the only goal of the game. He netted again in the 1-0 league win over Chippa United last time out and looks the form forward for the miss-firing Sundowns front-line.

Sundowns’ top-scorer in the Telkom Knockout in the PSL era is Isaac Shai, who netted 10 times, also the most by any player for any club.

Baroka FC are coached by former Zambia international player and coach Wedson Nyirenda, who has been in charge of the side since July 2018. Nyirenda previously played in the Premier Soccer League with Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns are coached by Pitso Mosimane, who has been in charge of the side since December 2012, currently the longest serving coach in the Premier League. He led them to the Telkom Knockout title in 2015.
