DREAMS DELIVERED: TITLE DEEDS CHANGE LIVES IN LUFHERENG

Dr Karabo Semenya

The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements in the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Mlungisi Mabaso, handed over title deeds to residents of Lufhereng Ext 6.

This vital initiative is restoring dignity and turning home ownership into a reality for many who were previously excluded, transforming lives across the city. The handover was a joyous occasion. Eighty-one-year-old Joshua Sipheko, impeccably dressed, expressed heartfelt gratitude: “It is a big day. My prayers were answered. For many years, I have been waiting for this day, and here we are — this is my title deed.”

His words struck a chord with many in attendance, highlighting the profound impact of the programme.

Among the 147 recipients was 105-year-old Lucy Raseboka. Due to her frailty, her daughter Phillis guided MMC Mabaso and other officials to their home. Although unable to speak, Gogo Raseboka’s face lit up with excitement as she finally held her title deed — a testament to her enduring hope. It was a truly moving moment for everyone present.

Cllr Mabaso praised the Lufhereng community for their unity and for celebrating each other’s newfound ownership. He also announced that more title deeds will be issued across Joburg’s seven regions, promising continued progress in extending property ownership to more Johannesburg residents.
