Today marks a momentous occasion in Etwatwa as the Gauteng Department of e-Government hosts the Youth Tech and Career Expo at the W.J. Mpengesi Primary School in Etwatwa. The Expo kicked off with a flourish of enthusiasm as it was eagerly anticipated by the youth of Etwatwa and it proved to be a pivotal milestone on the journey towards empowering young minds and propelling them into the digital and career landscape.
Organized by e-Gov, this Expo is an initiative dedicated to fostering digital literacy, technological advancement, and career development and the event itself turned to be a transformative experience for the local youth. This event was held in partnership with the Etwatwa Greening Team.
Ms. Phelokazi Ntanjana, the Deputy Director General for the Gauteng Department of e-Government, expressed the organization’s excitement about the event, saying, “The Youth Tech and Career Expo is a vital step towards realizing the potential of Etwatwa’s youth. It’s not just about technology and careers; it’s about creating a brighter future for our community by nurturing local talent and providing them with the resources they need to succeed.”
The Expo’s program was complete with activities and opportunities to inspire, educate, and guide the youth toward a brighter future. Key features of the event included:
Tech and Career Exhibitions: Local youth are front and center, showcasing an array of technological innovations and career opportunities. Attendees interacted with different stalls, gaining insights into their creations and the pathways toward promising careers.
Inspirational Talks: Etwata Greening Team and e-Gov invited influential speakers from diverse fields to motivate and guide the young audience. These speakers shared their experiences and insights, underscoring the significance of education and career-building in the modern age.
Job Fair: For those ready to embark on their professional journeys, the job fair section of the Expo intended to connect young talents with potential employers and educational institutions, opening doors to a world of opportunities.
Digital Inclusion: The Youth Tech and Career Expo is a testament to the government’s commitment to digital inclusion and empowerment. It’s an initiative aimed at equipping the youth with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

To provide the necessary support there were various stakeholders in attendance, to exemplify the possibilities that exists when government and civil society partners collaborate in public-private partnerships. Amongst them were Siyafunda CTC, BAM Telecoms, Gauteng Provincial Treasury, Gauteng City Region Academy, Digital Learning and the National Department of Employment and Labour. Collectively these stakeholders offered career guidance, learnerships, mentorships, jobs, and opportunities in various ways to help curb youth unemployment.
This day served as a beacon of hope for the young residents of Etwatwa. The Youth Tech and Career Expo is more than an event; it’s a platform for innovation, inspiration, and personal growth. It celebrates the aspirations of young minds and actively propels them toward a future filled with possibilities.
