FNB is proud to announce that the FNB Top 40 exchange-traded-fund (ETF) has been recognised as South Africa’s best exchange traded product (ETP), when considering tracking efficiency over three years with reference to South African equities, in the annual South African Listed Tracker Awards (SALTA), for the third consecutive year.
The FNB Top40 ETF is the only ETF to have won this award consecutively. This means that the ETF was the most efficient in tracking the performance of its local equity reference index. Efficiency and consistency matters, which make us proud to be recognised as the best performing ETF tracking local equities over a 5- and 10-year period.
FNB was also recognised as 2nd and 3rd place in the following award categories:
- Capital Raising – 3 Years – SA Equity: 2nd place for our FNB Top 40 ETF
- Tracking Efficiency – 3 Years – Foreign Equity: 3rd place for our FNB Global 1200 Equity ETF
- Trading Efficiency – 3 Years – SA Equity: 3rd place for our FNB Top 40 ETF
“Being acknowledged for consistently offering first class investment products in a highly competitive market is genuinely remarkable. As FNB, we are dedicated to supporting our customers along every step of their financial journey, making sure that investment options like exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are affordable for everyone, and playing a significant role in the expansion of the South African investment fund industry,” says Bheki Mkhize, CEO of FNB Wealth and Investments.
“By enhancing our asset management, trading, and security capabilities on our platform, FNB hopes to hold onto its position as a leading ETF provider in South Africa as the industry keeps growing quickly in response to investor demand in order to cater for a broad client base,” he adds.
ETFs are available on all of FNBs share products including FNB Shares Zero, FNB Tax Free Shares, Share Saver, Share Builder, Share Investor, Local Trader or through your Portfolio Manager.
Now in its seventh year, SALTA recognises ETF issuers for exceptional products provided to the South African markets. SALTA praised the bank’s continued commitment to the market, and the detailed information it offered to clients on its platforms.
“This award is testament to the hard work of the FNB team and inspires us to keep innovating, continue being the best financial services institution, and making a difference in global finance as the index-based and passive investment market is constantly expanding in South Africa.
We remain committed to leveraging solutions through our world-class platforms and delivering innovative and relevant investment solutions to continue solving for our customer needs and continue giving them exposure to local and global markets,” concludes Mkhize.

The SALTA Awards recognise not only the best total investment returns of ETP providers over the past 3 – 10 years in various categories, but also look to reward “skills” in providing index tracking listed ETF passive products for the investment industry. The organisers measure such skills through efficiency in tracking indices (tracking error) over 3 years, success in raising new capital through ETF listings on the JSE over 1 and 3 years, trading efficiency over 3 years and the People’s Choice Awards, for the favourite local and foreign ETP, selected by public votes, through a dedicated website.
