Gauteng Treasury Acting HOD, Mncedisi Vilakazi believes the second budget of the sixth administration recently tabled at the Legislature is very much responding to reigniting the ailing provinces’ economy and the thousands of jobs lost.
Vilakazi acknowledged the country’s GDP has shrinked adding that Gauteng contributes to the national output a staggering R1.1 Trillion to the national economy.
He also revealed that 600 000 jobs have been lost in the second quarter of the past financial year.
“Budget is there to satisfy unlimited resources and demonstrate that Gauteng is the major contributor.”
Pressed about under spending departments, He said, “It’s an issue treasury is managing on a daily basis.”
His Boss, Finance MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko told the media that her department would have liked to have more and more money because the more people the province have, the more demands go up.
Ralehoko also echoed Vilakazi’s sentiment and raised concern about the under spending departments pointing the finger at DID and Health.
“The said two departments have a problem of under spending their budgets. I believe these departments have a problem of capacity,” Ralehoko pointed.
