Referee Victor Gomes will lead a team of South African match officials, as he will be in charge of the 2018 CAF Champions League clash between Kampala Capital City Authority of Uganda versus Al Ahly of Egypt.
Gomes will be assisted by FIFA World Cup bound Zakhele Siwela and Johannes Moshidi, with Victor Hlungwani as the fourth official. This Group A encounter will take place on Tuesday, 15 May 2018 in Uganda.
Kickoff is at 16h00 local time in Uganda (15h00 SA Time).
The appointment comes at the back of a CAF investigation into allegations of bribery where Gomes and a team of match officials are said to have been offered money to fix the CAF African Confederations Cup tie between Plateau United of Nigeria and Algeria’s USM Alger played last weekend (Saturday, 7 April 2018).
Gomes was in Lagos for that clash where he was assisted by Johannes Moshidi and Athenkosi Ndongeni, together with Christopher Harrison, who was the fourth official.
“CAF are showing that, without a doubt, our match officials are among the best, if not the best on the continent. A flurry of critical assignments is testimony of our good work of producing top match officials,” said SAFA Head of Referees Tenda Masikhwa.
